The opportunity to recruit the Portuguese coach has arisen due to one of three clauses in his contract, which is set to expire in 2026.
According to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, Amorim's release clause is set at a hefty £25 million (€30 million) for domestic clubs. This sum is reduced to £17 million (€20 million) for foreign clubs.
The required fee to release Amorim from his Sporting contract is further reduced for clubs described by the outlet as European football's 'sharks,' which include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus, and United.
Amorim has also been linked with Manchester City should Pep Guardiola depart next summer, especially following the news that Hugo Viana, his director of football at Sporting, will be taking over Txiki Begiristain's role at the Etihad.
When questioned about the connection to United post Ten Hag’s dismissal, Amorim remarked on Monday: ‘I was already expecting this question and obviously I’m not going to talk about the future, because otherwise I’ll always have to comment. I’m very proud to be Sporting coach, that’s all.’
The 39-year-old, who was considered for managerial roles at Liverpool and West Ham earlier this year, is reportedly open to moving to Old Trafford.
It is understood that Amorim had been
